Vargas Gets 5 Hits
Saturday, July 18th , 2026
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Tony Vargas, it came around today.
The 25-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Ballpark of Brooklyn to pace the 17-2 Brooklyn Cyclones victory over the Hickory Crawdads.
Hickory skipper Antonio Jones told reporters in the press room that "Vargas deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Vargas hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Tony Vargas singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Alex Giron in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and hit an RBI single in the 6th.
This season, Vargas is swinging the bat at a .349 pace. He has hit 4 home runs and scored 18 times, while driving in 26. His on-base percentage is .381 and he has played in 31 games.
