3-Game Suspension for Alvarado
Monday, April 20th , 2026
The San Diego Padres were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Washington at Nationals Park. One in particular -- Tony Alvarado. Upon being called out on strikes, the Padres shortstop gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.

But the disgruntled Alvarado lingered on the field for another five minutes, berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.

But it got worse after the game, when Alvarado told reporters, "He was awful out there. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him."

For his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Alvarado for 3 games.

Looking at his present stats, Alvarado has compiled a .273 batting average in 15 games with a .304 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 3 runs.
