Don't look now, but Matt Ferris may have a homerun title in his future
Tuesday, February 17th , 2026
This offseason, Matt Ferris focused heavily on increasing his power at the plate. While his previous seasons showed flashes of his potential, he wanted to add more consistency and raw strength to his swing to become a true power hitter.
To achieve this, Matt Ferris turned to a more specialized training regimen. Partnering with the team's performance staff, he followed a training plan that that emphasized explosive movements—particularly in the legs and core. By focusing on building power from the ground up, he was able to improve his ability to drive the ball with authority. The program included various kinematic excersices, as well as rotational exercises to strengthen his kinetic chain.
In addition to the strength training, Matt Ferris worked with his hitting coach to maximize his power by making mechanical adjustments. He focused on improving his bat path and refining his launch angle, and was able to unlock some hidden exit velocity.
“It wasn’t just about muscle,” Matt Ferris explained. “It was about becoming more efficient with how I use my body in the swing. The goal was to hit the ball harder and farther, not just more often.”
The early results from offseason workouts have been promising. In batting practice, Matt Ferris was hitting with more pop and showed improved consistency in driving the ball to all fields. As the new season approaches, Matt Ferris is eager to take his revamped power into live action. "I feel like I've unlocked another level," he said. With a more explosive swing, Matt Ferris looks primed for a strong season.
