Juan Mendoza armed with a deadly new pitch Monday, February 16th , 2026 This offseason, Juan Mendoza has been hard at work on a new pitch that could redefine his effectiveness on the mound: the cutter. After seeking out new ways to diversify his offerings, Juan Mendoza worked with the team’s pitching coaches and data scientists to develop this new pitch from the ground up. Starting from his motion and natural release point, the cutter was identified as a good pitch to try out. He then went through the basics of the grip, intent, and release. This was perhaps the longest part of the training, as Juan Mendoza really got a feel for the cutter. Finally, he met up with the team's data scientists, who made use of advanced biomechanical tracking and video analysis in order to help him refine the spin and movement of the pitch. "I wanted to add something different to my mix," Juan Mendoza said. "The cutter has a real chance to change the outcome of at-bats, and it’s been a lot of fun working on it." Juan Mendoza believes the addition of the cutter will make him even more unpredictable and dangerous on the mound. Fans will be eager to see this new pitch in action the mound in the coming season. |
