Ironbirds Mermelstein Smacks 5 Hits Saturday, May 24th , 2025 It was a hits blitz for Larry Mermelstein at Ironbirds Ballpark. The Aberdeen Ironbirds right fielder tore into the Rome Braves for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to win the game. The Braves swept past the Ironbirds, 12-8, to ruin Mermelstein's day. "We weren't locating our pitches well," Aberdeen manager Erik Williams explained after the game. "Once you get behind in the count, you have to make really good pitches, rather than pretty good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Getting 5 hits from Larry was nice but it wasn't enough." Larry Mermelstein singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and walked in the 10th. To date this year, Mermelstein is batting .342 with 2 home runs. |
