Williams Smacks 5 Hits for Royals
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Kansas City's 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, left fielder Greg Williams told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Major League Baseball-level is really something special."
The 25-year-old player earned his accolades at Kauffman Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Rays.
"His swing is getting there," said Royals skipper Rob Hunter, who spoke glowingly of Williams after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Greg did that to perfection."
Greg Williams singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Adam Howard in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, doubled in the 11th and walked in the 13th.
Williams is currently batting .444 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 8 runs scored. He has 20 hits in 45 at-bats.
