Pirates Need Extra Frames to Get Past Rockets
The Pittsburgh Pirates took Pedro Martinez's best shot and still were able to collect a win at River Hills Grounds. The final score had Pittsburgh getting past the Rockets, 6-2, in 11 innings. Martinez over 5 innings allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 7. The triumph puts Pittsburgh at 53-37 for the season.

Tony Gomez went 1 for 4 with a walk for Pittsburgh. The 27-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Carlos Mujica. It was his 74th walk of the season.

"We're playing hard," said Gomez, "and we're playing to win."
