Lake Wylie got a terrific game from catcher Gregg Blackketter. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Pittsburgh, 5-4. Blackketter was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Mel Martinez notched his 18th save in 21 chances. The third-place Pirates have won 8 straight games.

Pittsburgh took a 5-4 lead on Russ Boswell's 17th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Boswell hit in the top of the ninth, left Lake Wylie pitcher Dusty Crostic visibly frustrated.

"The guys come to the ballpark ready," said Pirates manager Steve Cowin. "They're going out there and doing the simple things right."
