New York Sends River Hills Packing with 5-1 Loss
|
The 3-hit performance of Jeremy Root helped the New York Mets beat the River Hills Rockets, 5-1. Steve Petty, the winning pitcher, is now 6-6. He went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 3. New York now sits at 39-33, while River Hills falls to 21-49.
New York shortstop Edwin Davila contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a curveball to right-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 77th hit of the season and put the Mets ahead, 3-1.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Root said.
