Vancil Sizzles -- Smokes Yankees for 5 Hits Saturday, July 4th , 2026 A jubilant Trent Vancil joined the postgame press conference at Tropicana Field to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the New York A (FCL) Yankees pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Tampa Bay (FCL) Rays catcher, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 18-7 Rays win. "He made it look easy," said Ralph Holter, manager of the Yankees. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Trent Vancil doubled in the 2nd, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Matt Makos in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. |
