Hits Galore: Gilbert Drills 5 Hits Wednesday, July 15th , 2026 Boston (DSL) first baseman Dave Gilbert went down swinging at Ballpark of New York N (DSL), knocking out 5 hits even as his Red Sox 2 fell, 21-4. "It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Gilbert said after his 5-for-5 performance against the New York N (DSL) Mets 2. "No offense meant to New York N (DSL), but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well." After the game, his manager elaborated on the first baseman's improvements, saying Gilbert spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball. "That's what I'm trying to do," Gilbert agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." Dave Gilbert doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th. So far this season, Gilbert has put up a .652 batting average with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 16 RBIs. |
