Red-Hot Smith Scorches Pirates 1 Monday, July 13th , 2026 Getting 5 hits in a game has always been memorable feat in baseball. In the San Francisco (DSL)'s 9-0 win over Pittsburgh (DSL), first baseman Dan Smith was red-hot, scorching them for hit after hit at Pittsburgh (DSL) Grounds. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax," Smith said afterward. "I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I have to admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for five. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close." Dan Smith singled in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th. Thus far this year, Smith has hit .368 with no home runs and 5 RBIs. |
