3 Roundtrippers for Downard Wednesday, July 8th , 2026 It was a day for the record books for San Francisco (DSL) Giants 2 first baseman Bobby Downard, who walloped three out of Guardians 1 Grounds against the Guardians 1. However, not even a three-homer game could prevent the Guardians 1 from getting the 11-7 victory. "We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em, and we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," San Francisco (DSL) skipper Jason Cates joked after the loss. Downard still had a few opportunities to celebrate along the way. He was 4-for-5 for the day, batting in 4 runs and scoring 3 times. "I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Downard said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time." Bobby Downard hit a two-run home run off Mike Lopez in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Mike Lopez in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Lopez in the 6th, singled in the 8th and struck out in the 9th. This year, Downard has collected a .433 batting average to date with 13 hits in 30 at-bats, 8 RBIs, 4 home runs and scored 9 times. He has played in 13 games. |
