Mendez Belts 5 Hits Tuesday, June 30th , 2026 There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day. Alex Mendez is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-6 against the Toronto (DSL) Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The monster effort from the 19-year-old second baseman helped the Pittsburgh (DSL) Pirates 1 get the win, 14-3. "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Blue Jays manager Jared Reimer. "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today." Alex Mendez singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. At the moment, Mendez is batting .394 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. He has played in 18 games and scored 12 times. |
