Velasco 5-for-7 Against Mariners
Saturday, June 20th , 2026
After a 5-hit effort to lead Detroit (DSL)'s 22-5 victory over the Seattle (DSL) Mariners, third baseman Jorge Velasco told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Dominican Rookie League-level is really something special."

The 22-year-old player earned his accolades at T-Mobile Park with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Mariners.

"His swing is getting there," said Tigers 2 skipper Jonny Brown, who spoke glowingly of Velasco after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jorge did that to perfection."

Jorge Velasco doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Currently Velasco is batting .452 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs.
