Big Day with Bat: Sweet 5-for-6
Monday, June 29th , 2026
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Chris Sweet said his club's tilt with the Great Lakes Loons "felt almost like batting practice." The 20-year-old right fielder went a remarkable 5-for-6 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the West Michigan Whitecaps, who were topped by the Loons, 12-10.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Whitecaps manager Jeff Christopher said. "Sometimes Chris is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-6 and lose than go 0-for-6 and lose."
Chris Sweet walked in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.
Looking at his present stats, Sweet has compiled a .231 batting average in 28 games with a .298 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 7 runs.
