SS Smith Receives 2-Game Suspension Wednesday, July 8th , 2026 Chicago will not have the services of shortstop Greg Smith for several days. The league commissioner has suspended him for 2 games for arguing a third strike call. The altercation occurred in yesterday's contest with the Houston Astros and involved the home plate umpire. Riled up by being called out, Smith slightly shoved him after he was ejected. In baseball it is taboo to touch an umpire. This season, Smith has posted a batting average of .248 with 31 hits in 125 at-bats, 5 home runs and 16 RBIs. He has also scored 16 runs, walked 8 times and compiled a .307 OBP. |
