Mathews Selected Top Player Monday, June 29th , 2026 22-year-old Bill Mathews sent shock waves through Major League Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the National League Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Mathews made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .520 average, 13 hits in 25 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in. Where the Atlanta Braves center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Mathews certainly made his mark last week. This season, Mathews is hitting .294 with 67 hits, 9 home runs, 38 RBIs, scored 42 runs and played in 61 games. |
