Pina Tags Bats for 5 Hits Thursday, July 2nd , 2026 A jubilant Carlos Pina joined the postgame press conference at Louisville Grounds to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Louisville Bats pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Iowa Cubs center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 11-6 Cubs win. "He made it look easy," said Billy Follis, manager of the Bats. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Carlos Pina singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th and hit a three-run home run off Paul Brown in the 10th. Currently Pina is batting .258 with 66 hits and 8 home runs. He has knocked in 24 runs and scored 29 times. |
